I continue to strive to create paintings in a way that is akin to improvising in music. With music improv, there is usually a pre-selected key, tempo, scale, mood, etc. With my paintings I pre-select the colours, tone, basic style, etc., then I dive in and start, not knowing where I'm going next. It's problem-solving on the fly. Sometimes I end up with a painting I like, and sometimes not.
